Home Learning 1-3-2013

This week’s home learning task is to complete either the 100 Word or 5 Sentence Challenge. You can add your response to the blog as a comment, or you can write it in your book.

The 100 Word Challenge prompt for this week is quite a simple one. It is:

…the car stopped suddenly…

Make sure you keep to the 100 word limit and do go and visit at least 2 other pieces from different schools on the 100 Word blog.]

The 5 Sentence Challenge prompt is a picture. Try to write 5 interesting sentences about the image and see if you can vary the word you start the sentence with.

100 WC – Stanley

It was a wet and windy day my friend Oliver and I were inside having a pillow fight. Then mum called for dinner. After dinner the rain had stopped and the sun had come out.

Mum said we needed to go outside. So we went outside and got on the trampoline… A few minutes later me and Oliver were bouncing up and down on the trampoline when a branch snapped off a tree and fell on our garden shed Oliver and I said  ‘What is that’

…A few hours passed, Oliver had gone home, when dad came back he phoned the tree surgeon

100 WC Sienna

Hi my name is Sienna and I am being evacuated .I’ve just said goodbye to my mum. I wish dad was here but he’s fighting in the war. I hope he wont die. I really do hope he wont die . I’ve said goodbye to my pets as well. I wish you could come or the war ended and I came back home.
I look out of the train window as I’m writing. What is that? The fields look as big as football pitches and are as yellow as the sand with the corn as golden as the sun. The hedgerows look like spider webs hanging from the leaves. all my love Sienna

100 WC – Eloise

Have a read of Eloise’s 100 Word Challenge. What has she done well? What ideas could we magpie?

We rolled into the beautiful sunshine just as a man came round checking name tags.”What is that” he exclaimed.I looked down; I clutched a scruffy looking teddy with big bold wonky eyes. Everybody was staring at me; they knew it was rude not to answer an adult. They knew i would get caned.”My teddy”? I replied with a shaky voice unsure if he would cane me or not. Luckily the man had moved on to another row of grimy, miserable children. Just as the train stopped in the countryside I heard a voice behind me say “hello girl”.I turned around but they were gone.

100 WC – Sophie

Today I went to my door and opened it. There sitting on the doorstep was a little baby kitten. It was a bit grubby. Just then my mum came and said “what is that horrid dirty bundle of fluff?” I replied it is my new baby kitten that I just found. Then my mum went away. I went off with my kitten. I went off to wash my kitten. A few days later my kitten had run away. I was really worried. I also didn’t know where she had gone. I set out to find her the next day but that’s another story.

Home Learning 19-10-2012

Thank you so much for all your great World War II Home Learning, I learnt lots. If anyone has any more information about Barcombe during the war years, or knows of people we could interview after half-term do let the Badger team know.

This week’s home learning is a writing challenge. You can choose to do the easy challenge or the harder one – its up to you. Either have a go at the 100 word challenge, or perhaps try the shorter 5 sentence challenge.

100 Word Challenge: Can you put the phrase below anywhere in your work as long as you keep it together. The prompt is:  …what is that?…

You have 100 words to add to these 3 making 103 altogether. This prompt may lead you to have a go at writing some speech. Of course you could write a description of an item and ask your readers the question. It is a prompt that you can have some fun with.

5 Sentence Challenge: Can you write 5 sentences inspired the image below.

Respond to these prompts in your Home Learning book, or direct onto the blog as a comment. I will try to publish as many as possible on the blog over the week ahead.
