Home Learning 23-06-2011

23 Jun

Well done with the jumping challenge, from our discussions today and looking at your work, a lot of you managed to work out the mystery distances. We’ll need great mathematicians next week as we embark on a week of sport, culminating in Sports Day on Thursday 30th June. So that everyone can participate, can everyone have PE kit in school for every day, including a team-coloured t-shirt for Sports Day.

Your home learning task is to research the holiday destination you have chosen. Find out about where it is, what you can do there, what the best time of year to go is. You only need to research it, as we’ll be creating the travel guides in class on Friday. Remember, you can use the internet, but also libraries and your own general knowledge.

    orlando florida (sam’s homework)
in the state of Florida in the USA – here is a map. The red bit is Florda.(on my sheet there is a map.)
It takes nine hours to fly there. We hope to go Is a big city there in February. The temperature at home will still be cold and wintry but there it will be dry and warm. It is unlikely to rain.
In Orlando there is a Walt Disney Theme Park. Here are some things I have found out about it.
Walt Disney World is both the largest vacation resort in the world and most visited theme park resort in the world. At over 25,000 acres, the massive property features four world-renowned themes.
A Catholic church was built in the 1980s so that the large number of visitors to the Orlando region would have a place to attend church.
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is 107 acres of fun and adventure. It is comprised of seven “lands”: Main Street U.S.A., Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Liberty Square, Adventureland, Frontierland and Mickey’s.
SeaWorld is described as awe-inspiring, the power and beauty of the sea is everywhere at SeaWorld Orlando. Get up-close to all of its mesmerizing creatures – gentle manatees, graceful dolphins.
Located just north of the Disney’s All-Star Resorts, this ski resort and water adventure park features several slides and a mini-park for children.
Swim with sharks – as long as you have an open water scuba certificate.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (WWoHP), the newest of six islands inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure (IOA), is a meticulously conceived and produced theme park experience like no other.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the newest theme park at Walt Disney World and, despite Disney… best marketing attempts to make you think otherwise, it still strikes some as of a zoo with some rides…
The city-proper population is 238,300 making Orlando the 80th largest city in the United States. It is Florida’s fifth largest city by population. Orlando was incorporated on July 31, 1875, and became a city in 1885.
