Year 5 have had a great first day at Hindleap. We are now playing games in one if the classrooms. Today we have crawled through tunnels, walked up a stream and wallowed in mud. We’re all looking forward to more adventure tomorrow.

Maths Challenge
This morning, I’d like you to have a go at this maths challenge called Square It. Click the link and have a go playing against your partner. What helps you to win? What do you need to do to avoid defeat?
Hindleap Here We Go
On Wednesday the Year 5s are off to Hindleap Warren for their residential, followed by the Year 4s on Friday. In preparation we’re going to be doing some work based on the centre in Literacy and Maths. Have a look on the centre’s website and see what you can find out about Hindleap.
Home Learning 24-02-2012
This week’s home learning task is going to be one that is stretched across two weeks, because we are at Hindleap next week. So its due in on Thursday the 8th March. Your task is to come up with some ideas for items we could sell for a Mother’s Day Charity sale on the 16th March. See if you can come up with ideas which are good presents for mothers, but also link with our WWF class charity. You will need to be able to talk to the class about your suggestions at a Class Council meeting; so think about costs and potential earnings.
Lastly a reminder for all the Foxes that we will be going to Hindleap at the end of next week. Make sure you get yourself sorted with the things you need, including a book for those of you there on Thursday as its World Book Day and we will be doing some Extreme Reading!
Roman Research
To add to and compliment your great home learning research, have a look at this BBC site with information about the Romans. Use it to gather more information on your chosen topic.
Highwayman Photostory
You’ve produced some great Highwayman videos using Photostory. Here’s the example we showed in today’s assembly.
I’ll try and get the animation we created online in the next few days.
February Break Home Learning
Its half-term next week, so I’m posting a couple of home learning tasks for you to have a go at. Choose one of these writing tasks (or perhaps both) and have a go. You can comment a response on this post, or use DropItToMe to send it electronically. Alternatively bring it in to school when we return and we’ll share your responses with the class under the visualiser.
Task one: complete the 100 Word Challenge for this week. The prompt can be found on the 100WC site and it is;
…it wasn’t my fault…
Task two: write a 500 word story for the Radio 2 500 Words challenge. This could be on any subject, so is an opportunity to really impress me – and of course Chris Evans! If you want to enter the competition for real, submit your entry using the form online.
As a final task; if anyone needs to complete (or do more for) their Roman project, why not use the holiday to go to the library or a museum and found out fabulous Roman facts.
Improve This Sentence
As a quick starter to our information writing, try and improve these basic sentences about Boudicca.
Boudicca wanted revenge.
She got an army.
They marched on Camulodunum Londinium and Verulamium.
We’re looking at Islam today and will be investigating the 5 Pillars of Islam, as introduced by James and Mikey last week. Have a look at this

Fasting
Click on this video link to find out more about the fasting element of the Pillars of Islam and reflect on what Muslims do in Ramadan and why. What motivates Muslims to fast for such a long time? Lent starts tomorrow. Lots of people give up something for Lent. What do you think you could give up?
Why not test your new knowledge using a Zondle quiz. Login to Zondle and look at the ’topics my teacher has set me’ section and click on Pillars of Islam.
